Welcome to the Hades Experiment

We participate in the international collaboration (HADES Collaboration) , consisting meanwhile of 124 Scientists from 21 European Universities and Institutes, among them the Department of Physics of the University of Cyprus.

HADES (High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer) is a large scale experiment of the second generation, designed for high-resolution di-electron spectroscopy of compressed nuclear matter, produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The experiment is carried out at the UNILAC-SIS accelerator facility of the Heavy-Ion Research Center of GSI-Darmstadt , Germany. The LOI of the HADES experiment was presented in June 1992, and the final technical proposal was approved in July 1994. The HADES experiment is mainly funded by GSI and various other European funding agencies. The commissioning phase has already started, and first real experiments are planned for the end of 2000.
